Living Waters Sangha is a meditation group in Saratoga Springs, NY, about 30-45 minutes north of Albany, in New York's Capital district. The group was formed in the tradition of Vietnamese Zen Buddhist teacher Thich Nhat Hanh, and the format of our weekly sitting is based on this history. However, our members come from many backgrounds, and with influences including Zen, beat Zen, Vipassana, and non-Buddhist traditions.
As a spontaneous outgrowth of our little local melting pot, our group is largely free of formal organizational structure. Several of our members have been practicing for many years, but we have no teacher or heirarchy, and the person leading the sitting will change from week to week. We meet Wednesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00 pm. The format of our sittings is easy to follow and doesn't require any advance preparation. Each segment is marked by ringing the bell.
Attendance is open to all and free. We feel it is important to return the generosity of our hosts, and a $5 donation is suggested. However, we feel it is even more important to stress that this is entirely optional. We simply put out a basket for donations, and what is there at the end of the evening is what is there. No one will know who gave and who did not. If you would like to come we would much rather have you come than feel you can't "afford it". There is nothing to afford.
We hope you will sit with us. You are welcome to walk-in. No advance notice is required, however if you have questions, feel free to email.
When you do something, you should burn yourself up completely, like a good bonfire, leaving no trace of yourself.
